§ Lieut.-Commander Baldockasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps to release able-bodied police constables from traffic duties in the Metropolitan area for patrolling beats for the prevention of crime, in view of the success of the traffic warders' scheme.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeThe employment of school crossing patrols in the Metropolitan Police District has already released regular police from the supervision of a considerable number of crossings used by schoolchildren. While I hope that it will be possible to extend these arrangements, they serve a strictly limited purpose, and do not enable police officers to be relieved of other traffic work which is an integral part of police duty.
