asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the ratio of non-industrial civil staff employed by his Department to the numbers borne on Vote A on the latest convenient date.

The number of non-industrial civil staff employed by the Admiralty on 1st January, 1953, was 22.3 per cent. of the number of uniformed personnel borne on Vote A if locally entered non-industrial overseas staff are excluded, and 23.9 per cent. if they are included.
