HC Deb 03 March 1953 vol 512 c25W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Labour to state, in tabular form, the industries in which wage increases have been granted since 1st January, 1952; and if he will also give the increase on an annual basis.

Sir W. Monckton

In nearly all important industries and services increases in rates of wages have been granted since 1st January, 1952. A summary table for the main industry groups giving the approximate number of workpeople affected by changes in rates of wages reported to my Department during 1952, and the net amount of the change in their weekly rates of wages at the end of the year, is published on page 2 of the Ministry of Labour Gazette for January, 1953. As is there shown, the estimated net weekly increase in rates of wages of all workpeople affected at the end of 1952 was £4,426,000.
