§ 66. Mr. Rentonasked the Minister of Works what steps he has taken during 1952, and what steps he will be taking in 1953, in order to reduce substantially the administrative costs of his Department.
§ Mr. EcclesDuring 1952 my Department became responsible for the Government Car Service and started work on the preparations for the Coronation. In spite of these increases in work surveys of all services and functions and the relaxation of controls have resulted in a reduction of 1,046 non-industrial staff. During 1953 I hope to make further economies, but the extent of these must largely depend on the demand on my Ministry's services made by other Departments.
