§ 57. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the position of the Nigerian Farmers Bank; and what consideration the Administrator General has given to the desire of the majority of creditors for the reopening of the bank.
§ Mr. LytteltonThe Nigerian Farmers and Commercial Bank went into voluntary liquidation on 12th December and the Supreme Court made a compulsory winding-up order on 6th February last. An appeal against this Order has been dismissed by the West African Court of Appeal, but the voluntary liquidator has been granted conditional leave to apply to the Privy Council.
After several extensions of time the handing over of the books to the Official Receiver is now in progress. I have no information suggesting that the majority of creditors desire the reopening of the bank.
