asked the Minister of Transport why he has reduced the road maintenance grant to Staffordshire for 1953–54.

Owing to the need for economy in Government expenditure, grants for road maintenance in 1953–54 have had to be reduced. We have done our best to give Staffordshire a fair share of the money available.
