HC Deb 09 June 1953 vol 516 c5W
65. Mr. Orbach

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of our balance of payments problem and the feelings expressed by parents, teachers and magistrates, he will give instructions prohibiting the use of dollars for the purchase of matrices to be used in the printing of American-style comics sold in this country.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

No. I am satisfied that it would be undesirable to use the provisions of the exchange control for this purpose.
