HC Deb 30 July 1953 vol 518 cc214-5W
115. Sir J. Lucas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he can give an assurance that the pensions of British subjects employed or formerly employed by the Sudan Government will be safeguarded in any change-over that may take place.

Mr. Nutting

The continued payment of the pensions of servants of the Sudan Government is a responsibility of the Government in the Sudan and its successors. Her Majesty's Government are naturally concerned to see that the constitutional changes which are to take place do not adversely affect the interests of pensioners, though I have no reason to believe that they will.
