HC Deb 28 July 1953 vol 518 cc125-6W
83. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Labour what degree of defectiveness of vision and hearing, respectively, is permitted in assessing the fitness of National Service men for service with the Armed Forces.

Mr. Watkinson

A man otherwise fit would be called up under the National Service Acts if his visual acuity could be corrected by suitable glasses either to not less than 6/24 in both eyes or to 6/12 in one eye and 6/60 in the other, and if, using both ears, he was able to hear a conversational voice at 10 feet.
