HC Deb 23 July 1953 vol 518 cc64-5W
80. Mr. Grey

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will exercise his powers under the Capital Punishment (Amendment) Act, 1868, to provide that sentence of death shall be carried out before 6 a.m. on the day fixed.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The Royal Commission on Capital Punishment have been reviewing the arrangements for the execution of capital sentences and I propose to await any recommendations they may make before considering whether any change in the rules made under the Capital Punishment (Amendment) Act. 1868, is desirable.
