HC Deb 22 July 1953 vol 518 cc44-5W
75. Mr. T. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement in respect to future constitutional developments in the case of the small island or township Colonies.

Mr. Lyttelton

As is well known, the policy of Her Majesty's Government is aimed at giving such territories the greatest possible degree of internal self-government. Each place has its own special problems, which have to be considered and dealt with according to local conditions and the views of the inhabitants. I cannot, therefore, usefully attempt a general statement.
