asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if, in view of the fact that rent and rates are a determining factor in the cost of living and wage negotiations, he will set up a committee under an independent chairman to examine the bases of such cost and to make recommendations to be made available to hon. Members.

No. My right hon. Friend does not consider that the appointment of such a committee would serve any useful purpose.
