HC Deb 21 July 1953 vol 518 cc18-9W
73. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware of persistent water pipe bursts in private streets due to the pressure of vehicles on pipes which are laid too near the surface, an example of which has been sent to him; and if he will bring forward legislation to enable him to make grants to local authorities for the proper relaying of water pipes in such cases.

Mr. Marples

My right hon. Friend is not aware that there are widespread difficulties and cannot contemplate legislation of the kind referred to.
