HC Deb 21 July 1953 vol 518 cc31-2W
119. Mr. Bartley

asked the Minister of National Insurance the number of unemployed persons signing the registers at Chester-le-Street, Birtley, and Washington employment exchanges who have been transferred to the National Assistance Board now; and the number to be so transferred within the next six months under the National Insurance (Additional Days of Unemployment Benefit) Regulations, 1953.

Mr. Turton

Since 5th July there have been two applications for assistance at these employment exchanges from people who ceased to be entitled to unemployment benefit when Section 62 of the National Insurance Act expired and who were not among those receiving assistance immediately before that date. I have no means of knowing what claims for assistance will be made during the next six months.
