HC Deb 14 July 1953 vol 517 cc148-9W
Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many farmers in isolated areas have taken advantage of the self-help scheme for providing telephone transmission lines in the seven crofter counties and in Ross and Cromarty, respectively.

Mr. Gammans

On a preliminary assessment only seven farmers in Ross and Cromarty come within the scope of the self-help scheme. I am sorry that because of heavy pressure of work in the Aberdeen area we have not yet been able to approach them individually. Of the farmers in the other crofter counties who are eligible, two have so far agreed to take advantage of the scheme.

Mr. Steele

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the number of applications made for the installation of a telephone, and the number installed,
