HC Deb 09 July 1953 vol 517 cc103-4W
60. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health the estimated number of unused beds and shortage of nursing staff in hospitals serving outer north-east Greater London; and how many of that aggregate staff are part-time.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

Between 800 and 850 beds in these hospitals are unoccupied through lack of staff. The hospital authorities estimate that to staff these hospitals to a fully satisfactory standard they would like the equivalent of 950 additional full-time nurses and midwives; individual vacancies are filled by either full-time or part-time staff at their discretion.
