HC Deb 08 July 1953 vol 517 cc96-7W
75. Mr. Logan

asked the Secretary of State for War under what circumstances the War Office notified Mrs. Givins, Victoria Square, Liverpool, wife of Corporal John Givins, of the death of her husband on Thursday and on Friday issued his name among the wounded.

Mr. Head

It was learned on 16th June that Corporal Givins had been wounded and his wife was immediately informed. Further reports were sent to her on his condition on 23rd and 30th June. As soon as it was learned that he had died, Mrs. Givins was informed direct by the Record Office on 2nd July. Most unfortunately this last report did not reach the War Office in time for an alteration to be made to the weekly casualty list which was issued to the Press on 3rd July.
