HC Deb 21 January 1953 vol 510 cc28-9W
57. Mr. Usborne

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will give consideration to the desirability of inviting the United Nations to locate one of its departments or agencies in this country.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

Her Majesty's Government are prepared wherever appropriate to consider inviting subsidiary bodies of the United Nations or the Specialised Agencies to set up headquarters in the United Kingdom.

Her Majesty's Government have, in fact, invited one Specialised Agency, the International Maritime Consultative Organisation, to set up its headquarters in the United Kingdom. The invitation has been accepted.
