55. Mr. Coldrick

asked the Minister of Transport when he proposes to sanction the restoration of the Filton by-pass road, Bristol, which was closed for the construction of the Brabazon runway.

Mr. Braithwaite

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply informs me that he cannot contemplate the reopening of the closed part of the Filton By-pass since the runway which cuts it is a permanent requirement. My right hon. Friend has discussed with the local authorities concerned the question of providing a substitute road and he hopes to look into this question further on the site as soon as possible.
