HC Deb 13 February 1953 vol 511 cc82-3W
Mr. Braine

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many arrests have been made for looting in flooded areas; and whether he is satisfied that the powers of the courts are adequate to deal with this offence.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The answer to the first part of the Question is 15, and to the second. Yes.

Mr. Bossom

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to ensure that where financial aid is to be given to flood victims, at least some proportion of this is made available as quickly as possible.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

With this object in view, advances have already been made from the Lord Mayor of London's National Flood and Tempest Distress Fund to the Lords Lieutenant of the counties chiefly concerned.
