HC Deb 12 February 1953 vol 511 c71W
111. Mr. Wyatt

asked the Secretary of State for War when he expects the new British rifle to be manufactured in such large quantities that it will be possible to begin issuing it to the troops.

Mr. J. R. H. Hutchison

I can give no estimate of the date on which the new rifle will be available in quantity, since a decision on its production will not be taken until the current trials of ammunition are completed and a decision on the standard round is taken.
