asked the Minister of Food why, and under what authority, chalk is added to the National loaf.

Calcium carbonate is added to National flour to ensure that total food supplies provide sufficient calcium to meet nutritional requirements. This is done under Articles 2 and 6 of the Flour Order, 1952, and Article 2 of the Bread Order, 1952.
