HC Deb 09 February 1953 vol 511 c5W
52 52. Mrs. Braddock

asked the Minister of Transport how much was paid to the Anchor Line Shipping Company for the liner "Cameronia "; what is the age of the liner; and for what purpose it is to be used.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Arrangements were made some years ago with the Anchor Line for the charter of "Cameronia in her then condition (i.e. prior to refitting) and the charter provided that the vessel could be purchased by Her Majesty's Government at any time forf80,000 less f1,000 for each month of service whilst under charter. After refitting, the vessel was under charter for 39 months. The balance of f41,000 was paid when the option to purchase was exercised. The vessel is 32 years old and is to be used for trooping.
