HC Deb 05 February 1953 vol 510 c230W
Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Labour what brands of tea are taken into account in computing the cost-of-living index; and how the average price of these brands, on the latest available date, compares with the average price 12 months ago.

Mr. Watkinson

Information about the prices of 21 brands of tea, representative of the teas ordinarily bought by the bulk of consumers, is used in computing the Interim Index of Retail Prices. For these 21 brands the average level of prices in mid-January, 1953, was about 16 per cent. higher than in January, 1952.
