HC Deb 02 February 1953 vol 510 cc174-5W
67. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many acres of land in Scotland, classed as agricultural land, have been lost to agriculture during the last 12 months; and whether he can forecast the figure for next year.

Mr. J. Stuart

I regret that I have no information as to the amount of land in Scotland that was actually lost to agriculture during the year, but my hon. and gallant Friend may be interested to know that approximately 5,250 acres were approved during the year for the purposes of housing, hospitals, schools, playing fields, Service needs and new town development.
