HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 c79W
18 and 19. Mr. Richard Adams

asked the Minister of Health (1) how far limitations are placed upon prescriptions under the National Health Service in cases of tuberculosis;

(2) what restrictions are placed upon the prescription of cod liver oil and malt by doctors under the National Health Service.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

A general practitioner may prescribe any generally available drug or medicine which he considers necessary for the treatment of tuberculosis. Cod liver oil and malt may be prescribed when it can properly be regarded as a drug for the treatment of a patient.
