HC Deb 09 December 1953 vol 521 cc248-9W
118. Mr. Fernyhough

asked the Undersecretary of State for Air why those airmen who joined the Service prior to the introduction of the new ceremonial cap have had to pay 15s. 3d. each for the same.

Mr. Ward

Airmen are given clothing free when they join, and receive a clothing allowance from which to replace articles as they wear out. No airman has to buy a new pattern cap before his old one wears out, and the price of the new cap (15s. 10d.) is taken into account in fixing the rate of clothing allowance.
