HC Deb 02 April 1953 vol 513 c177W
Dr. Bennett

asked the Minister of Labour whether, as in previous years, he will suspend the calling-up of agricultural workers during the harvest period.

Sir W. Monckton

Yes. After consultation with my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Minister of Agriculture, I have arranged for the calling-up of agricultural workers to be suspended during the periods when harvesting may be expected to cause the heaviest demand on labour. The periods are, in England and Wales, from 31st August to 14th November, and, in Scotland, from 7th September to 21st November.
