§ 59. Mr. Edeasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the result of the further consideration by the various interests represented on the Police Council of the recomendations made in the Second Part of the Oaksey Committee's Report: what action he proposes to take to reconcile any conflict of views that remain: and when he anticipates being able to report decisions to the House and to introduce any necessary legislation.

Lucas-ToothSince the Police Council meeting on 28th and 29th July my right hon. and learned Friend has had useful discussions with the representatives of the local authority associations on the Oaksey Committee's recommendations relating to police representative bodies and negotiating machinery, and these matters will be further discussed at a meeting of the Police Council to be held next week. He is not yet in a position to say when it will be possible to introduce any legislation that may be required.
