§ 42. Brigadier Medlicottasked the Minister of Education how many persons have visited Apsley House up to the latest convenient date; whether the attendance has been greater or less than the estimate made before the house was opened to the public; and whether, according to her estimates, the cost of maintaining the building as a museum will be covered on the basis that the income from visitors does not fall below its present level.
§ Miss HorsbrughUp to 19th October the number of visitors was 96,465, an average of 7,300 per week. Until the house was opened I had no means of making an accurate forecast of the number of visitors. On the basis of the present attendance the income from visitors will be more than enough to cover the cost of the opening of the house to the public.
