28. Mr. Beswick

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give the amounts of Purchase Tax collected on textiles, excluding floor coverings, for each month in 1952 to the latest date possible; and the comparable figures for each month in 1951.

Purchase Tax is payable quarterly in arrear and it is estimated that receipts of tax in the first three-quarters of 1951 and 1952 from clothing (except footwear and fur garments), haberdashery, textile piece goods, and household textile goods were as follows:
