§ 64. Sir W. Smithersasked the Minister of Transport if, in view of the fact that safety on the railways has recently been impaired, in ways particulars of which have been sent to him, he will recommend the establishment of a Royal Commission to inquire and report on the betterment of safety precautions.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI am in close touch personally and through the Railway Inspectorate with the British Transport Commission and the Railway Executive on the important question of safety precautions on the railways. I do not consider a Royal Commission would be the best way to advance our knowledge or secure further progress in this vital field.
