75. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he can now announce the names of the chairman and other members of the Royal Commission which he has recommended to investigate the causes of the unrest in Kenya and also its terms of reference.

As stated in the reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Orkney and Shetlands (Mr. Grimond) on 29th October, I do not consider that a separate inquiry into the disturbances in Kenya would serve any useful purpose.

The name of the chairman and the terms of reference of the proposed Royal Commission on Land and Population in East Africa have already been announced. As regards the members, I would refer the hon. and learned Member to my statement in the House on 7th November.
