HC Deb 16 May 1952 vol 500 c166W
Colonel Clarke

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, whether, in view of the importance of keeping men recruited from rural areas in touch with country life, he will ensure that opportunities for the study of agricultural subjects are always available in the programmes of education for serving personnel.

Mr. Birch

Facilities are provided for both Regular and National Service men of the three Services to study for a selected vocation or to continue their vocational studies whilst serving. Agricultural subjects may be studied through the forces' correspondence course scheme and men in this country are also encouraged to take advantage of courses in these subjects arranged by local educational authorities.
