HC Deb 12 March 1952 vol 497 c142W
Mr. Janner

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will provide a list of the teams which it is proposed to send to the United States of America during the current year under the auspices of the Anglo-American Productivity Council; and what is the present policy of his Department with regard to the continuance of this scheme.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

I am informed that the following teams either have recently left for the United States of America or will leave during the next few months:

  • Plant maintenance.
  • Defence (ammunition).
  • Conservation of fuel, heat and energy.
  • Design for production (capital goods).
  • Plastics moulding.
  • Retail distribution.
  • Heavy chemicals.
  • Gas industry.
  • Milk utilisation.
It is possible that arrangements may be made for visits by teams from some other defence industries this year.

The arrangements for these visits have not been made by Government but by industry in this country and the United States, with the assistance of the Mutual Security Agency. I understand that the United Kingdom and American sections of the Council are now giving consideration to the future of the scheme.
