§ Mr. Bossomasked the Minister of Works if he will, in consultation with the Building Research Station, immediately prepare a comprehensive specification for the use of stressed steel concrete walls, floors, stanchions, girders and beams, for circulation throughout the building industry; and issue, in accordance with this, a model byelaw for the guidance of local authorities so that they may permit the use of stressed steel concrete in place of structural steel for urgently-needed buildings during the period of the steel shortage.
§ Mr. EcclesI am anxious to encourage the development of pre-stressed concrete and I am considering what further steps can be taken. I am advised that it would be premature to prepare comprehensive specifications at the present stage of development, but a good deal has already been published on the subject by the professional bodies concerned, by the Building Research Station and other interests. The question of issuing a model bylaw to local authorities is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing.
