Fraserasked the Minister of Pensions what was the total amount paid in war pensions for the victims of the First and Second World Wars during 1945–51, as compared with 1919–25, inclusive; and what percentage these figures represent of the national expenditure as shown in the Budget statements of the periods.
Mr. AmoryThe total amount paid in war pensions in the six years period ended 31st March, 1951, was £468,021,000, or just over 2 per cent. of the national expenditure. The amount paid in the six years ended 31st March, 1925, was £458,869,000—about 7¼per cent. of the national expenditure.
