85. Mr. Timmons

asked the Minister of Labour what are the numbers of unemployed persons signing at the following Employment Exchanges in Lanarkshire at the latest available date: Airdrie, Coatbridge, Bellshill, Uddington, Hamilton, Motherwell, Wishaw and Shotts; and how these figures compare with the October figures.

asked the Minister of Labour how many textile workers in the Scottish Border counties were unemployed at the latest convenient date.

Three hundred and ninety-four at 11th February, including 274 in Selkirkshire and 31 in Peebleshire.

asked the Minister of Labour to what factors he attributes the increased unemployment in Scotland.

asked the Minister of Labour the number of unemployed registering at Kilmarnock and Newmilns, respectively, at the nearest available date; and on the corresponding date in 1951.

The figures for Kilmarnock were 516 at 11th February, 1952, and 353 at 12th February, 1951. The corresponding figures for Newmilns were 84 and 62 respectively.

asked the Minister of Labour the number of unemployed in the furniture trades in the Beith district.

Persons resident in the Beith district register at the Kilbirnie Employment Exchange when unemployed. The number of persons in the furniture and upholstery industry registered as unemployed at that exchange at 11th February, 1952, was 44.
