Evansasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of London taxi-cabs first registered and the number withdrawn from service during the year 1951, and the number of taxi-cabs in service in London at the end of 1951 and at the latest convenient date, respectively; and the number of taxi-cab drivers licensed at the end of 1951, and at the latest convenient date, respectively.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeSix hundred and ninety-eight taxi-cabs were licensed for the first time in 1951 and 1,303 of the cabs which had been licensed in 1950 were not licensed in 1951. Six thousand one hundred and ninety-four cabs were in service and 9,278 drivers were licensed at 31st December, 1951, and 5,808 cabs were in service and 9,228 drivers were licensed at 31st May, 1952.
