HC Deb 30 January 1952 vol 495 c27W
11. Dr. Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that Mr. Dean Acheson, Secretary of State of the United States of America has officially announced that the latest proposals of Mr. Vyshinsky are of no value; and if he will have Mr. Vyshinsky's proposals carefully examined and a reasoned reply made to both sides in this matter.

Mr. Eden

I assume the hon. Member is referring to Mr. Vyshinsky's latest proposals on disarmament. The reports which I have seen of Mr. Dean Acheson's comments on these do not bear out the suggestion in the first part of the Question. It will be recalled that both the United Kingdom and United States Governments joined in sponsoring the resolution, which was approved by the General Assembly on 19th January, referring Mr. Vyshinsky's proposals for careful study by the newly established Disarmament Commission.
