HC Deb 04 February 1952 vol 495 c83W
100. Mrs. Braddock

asked the Minister of Supply if he is aware that 6,000 tons of abandoned tram-track rails are awaiting to be lifted and sold for scrap in Liverpool; and what steps his Department are taking to assist the local authority financially to make the scrap available.

Mr. Sandys

The iron and steel industry is assisting the Liverpool Corporation financially to make available all the scrap from the tram tracks in Liverpool as the tramway services cease. The industry has already purchased 1,400 tons, of which 1,000 tons have been cleared and sent to steelworks.
