§ 56. Mr. M. MacMillanasked the President of the Board of Trade what assistance by way of his Department's textiles orders has been offered to weavers and producers of textiles in the Western Isles, in view of the high level of unemployment and under-employment.
§ Mr. H. StraussI assume that the hon. Member is referring to the accelerated Defence orders for textiles which have been placed this year. I am informed by my right hon. Friends the First Lord of the Admiralty and the Minister of Supply that no such orders have been placed in the Western Isles, since the goods required for the accelerated programme were not suitable for the textile producers in that area.
