§ 114. Sir W. Wakefieldasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what reduction he expects to make in the public relations departments of all Ministries in 1952–53, in view of the fact that there has been a nearly 700 per cent. increase in the number of staff employed, compared with the year immediately preceding the outbreak of war.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterInformation staffs in the home Departments are expected to fall from 743 on 1st April, 1952. to under 700 by the end of the financial year. Most of the increase referred to by my hon. Friend, however, is in respect of the overseas information services; no very substantial change is likely here until the independent committee appointed to inquire into these services has completed its work.
