HC Deb 04 December 1952 vol 508 cc185-6W
Mr. Alport

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence whether he will reconsider restoring the pensions of those officers who had their pensions reduced below the 1919 level to the level originally granted them in that year.

Mr. Birch

As my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury explained in the House in the Second Reading debate on the recent Pensions (Increase) Act, it has not been the practice of this or of previous Governments to review contractual pensions of State servants because of the change in the value of money. They have, however, from time to time tried to alleviate hardship through successive Pensions (Increase) Acts.
