HC Deb 04 December 1952 vol 508 cc163-4W
60. Mr. George Craddock

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of his decision to extend the working hours of prisoners, the type of work to be provided.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The type of work to be provided will depend mainly on the nature of the orders placed with the Prison Commissioners by Government Departments. It will be particularly important to secure a greater quantity and variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work for the short-sentence prisoners in local prisons.
