HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 c132W
67. Mr. Erroll

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how far his Exchange Control Regulations permit the implementation of barter deals on the lines of the recently announced jet aircraft/raw cotton deal with Brazil.

Mr. R. A. Butler

There is nothing in Exchange Control Regulations prohibiting such deals provided that the importer has authority, under current import policy, to import the goods concerned and provided that payment for the export is made in the proper amount and manner.
