HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 c132W
69 and 70. Mr. William Paling

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will review Purchase Tax on articles approved as suitable Coronation gifts for children, and thus enable local authorities and education committees to give gifts worthy of the occasion;

(2) if he is aware that approved souvenir articles carrying 33⅓ per cent. Purchase Tax are increased to 100 per cent. if surmounted with a Crown; and why this is so.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I am considering how far I can go to meet these difficulties, and I hope to make an announcement shortly.
