Air Commodore Harveyasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that a textile firm in Macclesfield which has a certificate of registered design No. 430143, is exporting to West Africa cloth which is sold there at 6s. 4d. per yard, and which has been copied by the Japanese who are selling in the same market at 1s. 9d. per yard; and what steps he is taking to prevent this infringement.

§ Mr. HopkinsonWe were not aware of the case referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend but, as I said in my letter to him of 18th April if he will supply my right hon. Friend with full details, he will consider having the matter taken up with the Japanese Government. I presume that the owners of the design are considering taking legal action, if they have not already taken such action, to prevent the sale in West Africa of goods which infringe their design.
