HC Deb 26 November 1951 vol 494 cc104-5W
73. Mr. Baldwin

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the prohibition of the import of canned fruit, an increase of tins to British canneries will now be given to enable them to continue canning surplus apples which cannot be absorbed as fresh fruit.

Dr. Hill

Imports of canned fruit are to be restricted, not prohibited. In any case, such restriction as takes place will not of itself free any tinplate to enable us to increase supplies to British canners.
