asked the Minister of National Insurance how many pensioners are receiving the 4s. increase; how many pensioners there are whose birthday came after 1st October, 1951, and who, in consequence, are not drawing the 4s. increase; the number of non-contributory pensioners; and the number of new pensioners coming in each week.

Number of retirement pensions increased under the National Insurance Act, 1951 just over 4,000,000
Estimated number of pensioners who have attained pension age since 1st October, 1951 and are not therefore entitled to the 4s. increase until age 70 (65 women) 30,000
Number of non-contributory pensioners about 400,000
Number of new retirement pensioners each week about 5,000
